The Brickyard are proud to welcome mylittlebrother back for their hometown show, following on from their tour in October. This December show is always brim-full of their characteristic melodic pop, some oldies and a heap of new tunes that will soon become new favourites.

This five-piece band, based in Carlisle, sounds enormous but excels at dipping into the most intimate and direct of personal moments before exploding again with infectious and inviting energy.

A perfect pop cocktail of Will Harris’s sublime croon and his uniquely characteristic way with melodies and a turn of phrase. Just as the band – Dan Mason on guitar/vocals, Robin Howson on bass/vocals and Simon Buttress on drums/vocals – shifts from cinematic soundscapes to miniature moments with supple ease, the songs move from sly, often darkly humorous observations to heartbreakingly personal declarations, or walk the line between both simultaneously.

The recent addition of guitarist Jamie Williams has turbo charged the live performances and both Dan and Jamie jostle between lead and rhythm guitar effortlessly.

The sum of those parts is strikingly evident on their latest album HOWL, on Californian label Big Stir Records. Packed with melody and the fine-tuned power of the live band, the record was largely written before the COVID-19 crisis but at times eerily resonates with the world into which it’s been released. But it’s also full of hope and echoes a bright future for this band.

Delta Mainline

Dubbed as “gloriously out of step with the rest of Scottish music”, Delta Mainline’s unique mix of dream pop, shoegazing soundscapes, electronic experimentation, and psychedelia-infused garage rock has brought invitations to perform with Moon Duo, Micah P. Hinson, Jane Weaver, Elephant

Radio play has included Lauren Laverne on BBC 6Music, BBC Radio 1 and Amazing Radio, with the latter’s Jim Gellatly (“the voice of new music in Scotland”) previously championing Delta Mainline as one of the country’s finest live acts. This live sound was captured on EP “In a World Full of Madness, the Simple Joy of Melody Can Pull You Through” (mastered by CHVRCHES’ Iain Cook), as the songs cascade from gospel-tinged melodies to intense sonic experimentation.

Previously, the band were showcased amongst “the cream of the guitar-based psychedelia-influenced crop” (Drowned in Sound) on ‘Strung Out Vol. 1’ with Caribou
and The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Delta Mainline’s 2nd album, mixed by The Delgados’ Paul Savage (Franz Ferdinand, Arab Strap, Teenage Fanclub), launched in May 2019.

Hector Gannet, from North Shields on Tyneside, are masters of a kind of new, modernist folk music, taking their name from an ill-fated trawler which sank in the North Sea under heroic circumstances in 1967. Hector Gannet’s musical incarnation began to draw attention when they wrote and performed music to accompany vintage footage of the North East heritage of shipbuilding and fishing as part of a project for the BFI, and a tour supporting Sam Fender soon followed. Hector Gannet has toured widely since, including support slots with Sea Power, Lanterns on The Lake, Peter Doherty and Kathryn Williams, plus two North American adventures and, more recently selling out Sage Hall Two in Gateshead. Hector Gannet’s second album, The Land Belongs To Us, was released to acclaim in 2023. MOJO awarded four stars: “Pointedly political, natural-world-advocating folk rock.” Uncut proclaimed “North Shields’ answer to Crazy Horse.”

Hector Gannet are now back in the studio preparing a forthcoming release for November, after a busy summer which seen the band playing a stadium gig with Sam Fender at St James Park Newcastle, a gig in a brewery with folk legends Lindisfarne, and playing at Muncaster Castle as part of the superb boutique Krankenhaus festival curated by Sea Power in the Lake District.
